TitleCopy letter from James Hopwood Jeans, Secretary of the Royal Society; to [Robert John Strutt] Lord Rayleigh, FRS
Date6 March 1924
DescriptionUpdates Robert John Strutt on 4 matters; that Ernest Rutherford has communicated 'Absorption of hard x-rays by elements' by N. Ahmad for Proceedings and considers it very good, asks for confirmation to pass it for publication. Second matter is that N. F. Budgen's paper has been sent to [Henry Cort Harold] Carpenter and if needed, will be sent to [Walter] Rosenhain. The third matter concerns 2 papers by [Jaroslav] Heyrovsky which has been reported by [James] Walker; the article 'A note on 'The significance of the Electrode Potential' being an answer to the criticism of J.A.V Butler' is suggested for publication in Proceedings but suggests the Council take a look at the paper for another opinion, suggesting Dr Williams of the Cotton Research Association Laboratory, Didsbury. Jeans mentions that Dr. Williams is not a Fellow and asks if Strutt knows of him. Walker in a covering letter advises the publication of 'The Electrode Potentials and the Energy of Solvation' only if the second report on the previous paper returns as favourable, Jeans proposes this can be the case. On the fourth matter states that Bragg has communicated a paper by [William Thomas] Astbury and [Kathleen] Yardley 'Tabulated Data for the Examination of the 230 Space-groups by homogenous X-rays' which Jeans has convinced him to send in, as he was seeking financial means to publish it. Informs that Mr. White [of the Printers] has already spoken to the authors. Asks if Strutt can suggest 2 referees for the paper.
