Title | Copy letter from James Hopwood Jeans, Secretary of the Royal Society; to [Robert John Strutt] Lord Rayleigh. |
Date | 18 March 1924 |
Description | Updates Robert John Strutt on 2 matters, that of the paper 'Tabulated data for the examination of the 230 space-groups by homogeneous X-rays' by [William Thomas] Astbury and [Kathleen] Yardley, which has been communicated by [William] Bragg. States that Bragg disagrees with Strutt's suggestion to publish the tables in a separate paper, and agrees with [James Hopwood] Jeans suggestion to publish them in Transactions, where a reference can make tracing the papers together easy. States that the paper has been sent to [Arthur] Schuster for a second opinion. Also states that [Frederick Alexander] Lindemann has now reported on 'A note on 'The Electrode Potentials and the Energy of Solvation' and 'The significance of the Electrode Potential' being an answer to the criticism of J.A.V Butler' by [Jaroslav] Heyrovsky, and is adverse to its publication. States that with Strutt's approval, Jeans will write to the paper's communicator [Frederick George] Donnan with a copy of the criticism and stating that Jeans and the Chairman have decided that the paper cannot be published. |
