TitleCopy letter from Michael Foster, to the Secretary, Her Majesty's Treasury
Date11 February 1887
DescriptionFoster is directed by the 'Challenger' Committee of the Royal Society to inform the Secretary that they have, in consultation with Mr Murray, considered the estimates for the ensuing financial year 1887-1888 of the Deep Sea Exploring Expedition Report in the amended form, presented to the Lords by Murray on 18 December 1886. The Committee cannot suggest any modifications in the estimates amended.

The publication of the Report appears to be making satisfactory progress and the Committee accept the suggestion of the Lords that next December the Committee should examine and report on the final estimates for the completion of the Report. The Committee propose to do this in the first week of December but can meet in advance of this if the Lords desire the estimates earlier, though they request appropriate notice to be given.

The Committee assumes that, as suggested in Foster's last letter, the annual report usually sent in shortly after March may be omitted for the present year.
