Description | Adverting to his letter of the 19th June, in which he made an application to the Government of India to allow the observing parties which it is proposed to send out in connection with the approaching total Solar Eclipse of January 1898 to land their instruments and equipment without the usual customs examinations and charges, Foster is now in a position to give further particulars of the composition of the Expeditions.
Details the names and activities of various parties of observers including Sir J N Lockyer, W H M Christie, Captain E H Hills, and H F Newall. In addition to the observers named above several gentlemen have kindly volunteered their separate services to the Eclipse Committee and the President and Council trust that the same facilities will be extended to them as are desired for the expedition in general. Trusts that he will hear at an early date that the Government of India will consent to grant to this Expedition the facilities and assistance asked for in his letter of the 19th June. |
