TitleCopy letter from Arthur William Rucker, to Professor Oliver Lodge, Fellow of the Royal Society
Date28 July 1898
DescriptionMr Campbell's paper, which was communicated by Lodge, was sent to a referee on the question of acceptance as Rucker was not sure that it was quite the type of paper for the Royal Society. No hint to this effect was given but the reply is that though very suitable for communication to the Institution of Electrical Engineers, the paper is not of the character suitable for the Royal Society. The referee appears to contemplate the possibility of a different opinion being arrived at, and in that case offers to send several pages of detailed criticism. Asks if Lodge thinks it better to withdraw the paper in accordance with Standing Order 31.

If Lodge does not wish to take this course the matter will have to come again before the Physics and Chemistry Committee and as the long vacation is just beginning, this will involve considerable delay.
