Description | Harrison sends a copy of the Soirée programme, and expresses regret that Jervis-Smith could not attend.
He explains that the Council of the Royal Society would not agree to spending money on electric fans until they had tried utilising the burners to create a draught in the ventilating shafts. Following investigations and appeal to the Office of Works, Harrison and Dr Shaw discovered that the gas burner in the roof was designed to be part of the ventilation system, and once put into working order by the Office of Works, it has produced positive results on several recent occasions. Harrison believes that there was a notable improvement in the meeting room at the recent Soirée, with Shaw also having remarked upon it. |
