TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to Dr J A H Murray, Oxford
Date20 November 1907
DescriptionHarrison asks if he can be given some time to answer Murray's query about the first use of the word "President" in the early records of the Royal Society as he is particularly busy at the moment. He asks how soon Murray needs the information, and states that his instinct is that evidence will be found earlier than Grew's Anatomy.

The Society of Antiquaries claims to be have been founded almost 100 years before the Royal Society, but they were not incorporated until 1751. The Society of Arts was founded in 1754, and the Royal Academy of Arts in 1768, although the last of these has no charter. He is leaving out the foreign Academies, of which at least the Lincei was founded prior to the Royal Society.
