The Society of Antiquaries claims to be have been founded almost 100 years before the Royal Society, but they were not incorporated until 1751. The Society of Arts was founded in 1754, and the Royal Academy of Arts in 1768, although the last of these has no charter. He is leaving out the foreign Academies, of which at least the Lincei was founded prior to the Royal Society. |
