TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison to J J Manley, Dauberry Laboratory, Magdalen College, Oxford
Date17 March 1913
Description'I reply to your enquiry of Saturday's Date.
It is irregular for me even to receive any paper sent in here unless it be communicated by a Fellow; nevertheless in the case of a paper forwarded by a stranger, who is not in touch with any Fellow willing to serve as communicator, the Secretaries will sometimes read it through, and if it strikes them as especially suitable for the Society will perhaps communicate it themselves. This procedure however is very exceptional and in the case of an author like yourself, who is already know as having contributed papers through the regular channels, and who is well known to so many Fellows, I would suggest that it would be better if you sent your paper to one of those who have communicated previous papers of yours, and asked him to communicate it; or, as a preliminary to give you his opinion as to its suitability for the Royal Society.'
