TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to Maunde Thompson, Principal Librarian, British Museum
Date8 July 1891
DescriptionWith reference to his previous letter of 15 June and his interview with Maunde, Rix asks to inform him of points which he omitted from his previous communication, and which may influence the decision of the Museum trustees. Firstly, that the two assistants they wish to send to the library are members of Royal Society staff; secondly, that Miss Burfield, whose youth was particularly objected to, will act only as an assistant to Miss Chapman, who will be the required age of 21 years in a couple of months; and thirdly, that their work will primarily be in 'Academies and Periodical Publications', for which they can use the Catalogue of the Academies have presented to the Society, and which will allow them to arrive with prepared slips to limit the work of the Museum's assistants.

If the Museum Trustees are not due to meet soon, Rix asks that Miss Chapman be allowed to use the library in the interim, whilst the question of granting permission to Miss Burfield has been considered.
