DescriptionFoster, in reply to their letter of 24 June, has been directed by the President and Council of the Royal Society to recommend Mr Arthur Matthew Weld Downing, Assistant at the Royal Observatory Greenwich, for the appointment of Superintendent of the Nautical Almanac. Should they be unable to get Downing, they recommend Mr Arthur Alcock Rambaut as a suitable alternative.

Includes a statement concerning the careers and suitability of both Downing and Rambaut.
