Title | Copy letter from Dr. Arthur Schuster, Secretary of the Royal Society; to Sir [Robert Abbott] Hadfield, FRS |
Date | 17 May 1917 |
Description | Informs Sir [Robert Abbott] Hadfield that he has read his paper, 'A contribution to the study of the magnetic properties of manganese and manganese steels'. With regards to its suitability for publishing by the Society, notes there is difficulty in that Mr. Cheneveau wishes to publish it simultaneously in France. Explains that the Society has always been particular in insisting that papers should not be published first elsewhere. Also suggests that Sir Hadfield's paper would need some revision, with the description of the 'curie balance' being unintelligible to anyone who is not familiar with it. However, expresses interest in what Sir Hadfield states about silicon, on the basis that it may help account for the high internal temperature of the earth and that there is a need for a steel that can be magnetised permanently. |
