TitleCopy letter from James Hopwood Jeans, Secretary of the Royal Society; to John Ace, Esq., Ashville, North Carolina, U.S.A
Date20 March 1924
DescriptionConcerning Joshua L. Ace; replies that no further information can be found on John Ace's great grandfather, Joshua Ace. States that the photograph of the diploma sent in by Ace has been compared with an original diploma issued in 1713 and points out the differences, that the original is written in Latin, contains the Royal Society Coat of Arms, and signed by Sir Isaac Newton, who was president of the Society at the time. Also states that the document photograph contains the date 1781, 50 years after the Royal Society stopped issuing diplomas and there are no records of J.L. Ace, or Lacee or L.Gay as Fellows or secretaries of the Royal Society at this date. Returns the photograph [not enclosed]
