| Description | James asks that before Abney leaves England he give a few general recommendations regarding their meeting-room lantern, and then he will act. He further notes that Herbert Rix left the matter in his hands, but as he leaves when Rix returns, the matter will be stalled until October unless he can secure the authority to proceed.
He understands that Mr Keen will design a suitable base at the proper raised height, but that this is not to be a tripod or telescrope stand arrangement; James has sufficient authority to go on with this, providing he can get permission from the Treasurer. Secondly, he believes the present lantern is to be retained, but fitted with a new six inch condenser and adjusted for the four inch lens now in use. Thirdly, he states that a new casing is to be provided for the present lantern, and asks whether this is to be a wooden or japanned case, or whether estimates for both should be sought and referred to the Treasurer. James asks if Mr Dallmeyer should visit and estimate for the second two points he mentions. If James can get Abney's authority, he can then get the Treasurer to make a decision based on Abney's suggestions.
