Title | Paper, 'On the mechanism of the closure of the larynx, a preliminary communication' by T P [Thomas Peter] Anderson Stuart |
Creator | Stuart; Thomas Peter Anderson (1856-1920); Scottish professor of physiology |
Date | 1891 |
Description | Stuart writes: 'By a series of papers ending with that by myself with Dr A McCormick (‘ Journ. Anat. Physiol.,’ January, 1892) ['The Position of the Epiglottis in Swallowing'], it has been finally determined that the time-honoured doctrine of the closure of the larynx by a lid-like action of the epiglottis is quite untenable; but, so far as I am aware, no satisfactory account of how after all the larynx is closed voluntarily and reflexly has as yet been given.'
Annotations in pencil and ink throughout.
