Title | Letter from Alfred Cardew Dixon, regarding a paper 'On simultaneous partial differential equations' by Alfred Cardew Dixon |
Date | 5 December 1899 |
Description | Provides notes on the referee's reports, pointing out areas where he has not been able to agree with them. Refers to work of Joseph-Louis Lagrange, Paul Charpit and Carl Gustav Jacob Jacobi. Believes that the work on bidifferentials will eventually lead to developments in partial differentials, which links the two halves of the paper. If the section on Pfaffians is omitted, the work will only have to be done again by some future worker.
