Title | Referee's report by George Johnstone Stoney, on a paper 'On cosmic evolution' by A W Bickerton |
Date | 21 May 1900 |
Description | Sectional committee: [Physics]
Recommended for publication. It can only be published in Proceedings by making an exception of the rule not to publish material which has already been published elsewhere. Is unable to find anything of importance in it not contained in Bickerton's paper 'Synoptic statement of the Principles and Phenomena of Cosmic Impact: prepared for the criticism of Scientific men and Societies', in the Transactions of the New Zealand Institute. Bickerton's object is doubtless to make his 'remarkable speculation' more widely know. If the paper can not be published in the 'Proceedings', suggests inducing the editors of the 'Philosophical Magazine' in England and the 'Astrophysical Journal' in America to publish the paper. If the Sectional Committee decide in favour of publication there are some corrections Stoney thinks they ought consider and which he will communicate. If not to be published he does not suppose the Society need decline to allow it to be read.
