Title | Referee's report by James Alfred Ewing, on a paper 'Micro-crystalline structure of platinum' by Thomas Andrews |
Date | 20 November 1901 |
Description | Sectional committee: [Physics and chemistry]
Not recommended for publication. The paper contains almost no 'novel matter', amounting to little more than an assertion that platinum exhibits characteristics of crystalline structure, a well known fact in other metals. He takes exception to some of the language used by the author, believing the phrase 'secondary crystals' to be misleading and inaccurate, and his assertion regarding a structure of 'interfering cubes and octahedra' is not borne out by the photographs.
