Title | Referee's report by Ettrick William Creak, on a paper 'Magnetic observations in Egypt, 1893-1901' by Henry George Lyons |
Date | 29 June 1901 |
Description | Sectional Committee: Physics and Chemistry
Recommended for publication in Philosophical Transactions. He recommends the curves and data relating to the diurnal variation of the declination contained in pp17-24 of the manuscript, not be published, the information being scanty and conveying no information of value. The rest of the paper should be published in full. The times of observation being expressed in Cairo mean time for the major part of the paper, Creak recommends that Cairo mean time also be adopted for those observations taken in 1901.
The map containing the isogonic and isoclinal lines should be reproduced in a form to occupy one page of the Transactions without folding. Does not recommend the reproduction of the map containing observations between the parallels of 16 and four degrees north. The paper is a valuable contribution to knowledge of terrestrial magnetism in a region where observations have hitherto been so rare. The author might be asked to make references to the observations he conducted to ascertain the diurnal variation of the declination.
