Title | Referee's report by Ernest Howard Griffiths, on a paper 'A new manometer, and on the law of pressure of gases between 1.5 and 0.01 millimetres of mercury' by John William Strutt, Lord Rayleigh |
Date | February 1901 |
Description | Sectional Committee: Physics and Chemistry
Recommended for publication in Philosophical Transactions, in full without modification and including all the illustrations.
He has 'sincerere admiration' for this work. This new instrument will allow extremely minute differences of pressure to be measured simply and with great accuracy. Hitherto all observations have been hampered by uncertainties as to the real value of low pressures when determined by means of McLeod's gauge. Hopes the author will extend the enquiry to other gases than nitrogen, hydrogen and oxygen and that, if possible, the observations on hydrogen may be repeated. Thinks there is some misprint or ambiguity in the paragraph beginning at the 20th line from the top on page seven.
