Title | Referee's report by William Turner Thiselton-Dyer, on a paper 'The structure and affinities of dipteris, with notes on the geological history of the dipteridinae' by Albert Charles Seward and Elizabeth Dale |
Date | 10 June 1901 |
Description | Sectional Committee: Botany
Recommended for publication in Philosophical Transactions, in full subject to the suggestions he makes. The illustrations should if possible be amplified by some illustrations of allied extinct forms. All the illustrations should be reproduced. Notes that Dipteris and Matonia are two anomalous but associated genera which have long attracted the attention of botanists. A detailed study of their structure is the more desirable as they have hitherto proved extremely [?] in cultivation. The authors have 'probably correctly' separated Dipteris from Polypodiaceae. The paper should be published with all its illustrations as it stands.Although, it might be more accessible to botanists if published in the Transactions of the Linnean Society' than in Philosophical Transactions. The paper would carry more conviction if the authors saw their way to support their position by figuring some mesozoic ferns for comparison with the Dipteris.
