Title | Second referee's report by William Cecil Dampier Whetham, on a paper 'The measurement of ionic velocities' by Bertram Dillon Steele |
Date | 30 August 1901 |
Description | Sectional Committee: not stated.
Makes the following suggestions which might be embodied by Steele when correcting the proofs. Thinks the rest of the alterations are all right. Page 5a; the expression U = xu and V = xv are only true if the migration constant is independent of the concentration. The real relation is U + V = x (u + v), which always holds good. This is treated correctly on page 47. Page 52a; it should be clarified that u and v are not the effective velocities with which the ions work their way through the solution, but the velocities with which they move during that part of the time in which they are ionized and therefore active.
