Title | Referee's report by Francis Henry Neville, on a paper 'Effects of strain on the crystalline structure of lead' by J C W Humphrey |
Date | 21 July 1902 |
Description | Sectional Committee: Physics and Chemistry
Recommended for publication in Philosophical Transactions, in full. It is in many respects an advance on the work of [James Alfred] Ewing and [Walter] Rosenhain. All the figures are of use in making the author's points clear, but it would be possible to cut each of the photographs: one, two, three, five, six, and eight, into two and publish only half of each, without injury to the paper. The same might be done for photographs nine, ten and eleven. He hopes the first part of the paper to page 18, will be useful in making existing knowledge accessible to a larger circle. The second part of the paper dealing with re-crystallisation following strain in solid metals, contains very conclusive evidence of the phenomena, and the remarks of the author are valuable.
