The paper must be referred to a mathematical elastician. It is essentially a mathematical theory on which he would not feel competent to form judgement. He can however form an opinion to some extent on the physical applications of the theory in the interpretation of Wöhler's results. Admits he may be wrong but he seriously thinks the explanation of Wöhler's results must be sought in a quite different direction and this application does not rise above the level of a surmise. Though Pearson frequently refers to Wöhler's research and complains regarding its deficiency of data, the author does not refer to any of the later repetitions of Wöhler's results. There is no reference to Banschinger's Wöhler experiments, of which much fuller data is published. Fails to see the possibility of the impulsive action Karl Pearson assumes.
