TitleReferee's report by Ernest Howard Griffiths, on a paper 'The determination of specific heats, especially at low temperatures' by H E Schmitz
Date20 April 1903
DescriptionSectional Committee: Physics and Chemistry

Recommended for publication in the Proceedings, rather than Philosophical Transactions. If the paper is published in full he thinks all the illustrations necessary. In an appended typescript report Griffiths notes the information given is of considerable value as information concerning changes in specific heat consequent on changes in temperature, is urgently needed. At the same time there is not much of novelty in the experimental method and it appears that the description of the experiments et cetera is unnecessarily lengthy. It may with advantage be possible to compress the paper to something like half its present length. Provides detailed criticisms with page references to the original manuscript. Concludes that the paper shows evidence of careful work and much thought and experimental skill and the results are of scientific value. Though he thinks it more fitted for Proceedings, he does not wish to press this view if the other referee is strongly in favour publication in the Transactions.
