Title | Referee's report by Charles Vernon Boys, on a paper 'On the compressibility of solids' by John Young Buchanan |
Date | 9 March 1904 |
Description | Sectional Committee: not stated [Physics and Chemistry]
Recommended for publication in Philosophical Transactions, with difficulty as it stands, as it is unduly long and discursive, more especially in the manuscript part at the end. As further results are promised, he thinks it would be much better if Buchanan could be induced to publish all the results together and in every case to have the specimens tested for youngs modulus and rigidity by tension. Provides an example of unnecessary length. He does not think the Society should be asked to print full detail tables of every metal. One for one metal to show the method and accuracy attainable, and one giving the ultimate results for all the metals examined should be enough for practical purposes.
