Title | Referee's report by George Downing Liveing, on a paper 'The absorption spectra of the vapours of benzene and its homolognes, at different temperatures and pressures, and of solutions of benzene' by Walter Noel Hartley |
Date | 10 December 1907 |
Description | Sectional Committee: Physics and Chemistry Not recommended for publication in the 'Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society'. The paper is a sequal to a series by the same author already published in the Transactions of the Chemical Society of London. Refers to work of J Pauer [?], Julius Wilhelm Brühl and Bayer [Carl Josef Bayer or Adolf von Baeyer?]. The paper deserves to be published, but the best place would be the Transactions of the Chemical Society of London, along with the author's previous papers in the series. If not there, than the paper should appear in the Proceedings. Does not consider the theoretical part of the paper should be published. The photographic reproductions should be printed each at the same scale, and with more explicit references to them in the text. Wonders why the author, after having has his previous papers published by the Chemical Society of London, should suddenly submit a paper to the Royal Society. Has this paper been 'adversely criticised, or the corresponding theories in other papers?'
