Recommended for publication in the 'Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society', 'but only on the condition...that the individuals examined and classified as duplex or simplex should be reassessed and independently classified by some competent and impartial critic'. The current distinction made between the duplex and simplex condition 'must be very much influenced by the unconscious bias of the author'.
