Assistant Demonstrator ofg Anatomy at Guys Hospital, London1890-91; Demonstrator of Physiology under E H Starling at Guy's Hospital London (1894-95);two years with Drechsel in Berne (1895-7); two years with Schmiedeberg (1898-9)' Lecturer in Physiology at St Thomas's Hospital Medical School, London(18991909); part time at the Lister Institute (1901-1909); Professor of new Chair of Pathological Chemistry at Faculty of Medicine in Toronto, Canada (1909-1914); succeeded J S Macdonald as Professor of Physiology at Sheffield (1914-1933); also acted as Dean of the Medical Faculty (1916-1922 and 1931-1933); Moved to Wantage (1933) then to Oxford to work with Professor John Mellanby FRS in the laboratory of physiology. Moved to Lyme Regis during Second World War, then to London and Southbourne, and finally settled in Switzerland.
