Harwell (Zeta): Culham , Director SRC Astrophysics Research Unit (1968=1972); Professor of Astronomy, University College London (1972-1994); leading role in national and international science policy bodies such as SRC, NERC, Anglo-Australian Telescope Board, and James Clerk Maxwell Telescope Board. His determination led to the launch of the forerunner of the Hubble space telescope. Developed the International Ultraviolet Explorer Satellite, the most successful and productive astronomical space facility ever built.
