OtherInfoHis main work 'The History of the Rebellion', considered one of the most important histories of the English Civil Wars, initially defended Charles I, although later revisions included much more frank criticisms of Clarendon's contemporaries. Through his marriages, as well as his daughter's marriage, he developed close associations to high-standing figures and the royal family. Earlier in life, during his legal studies, he was associated with people such as Edmund Waller (FRS 1663) and Lord Falkland.
