General context | Chamberlayne was not particularly active in the Royal Society's work after his election. In 1669, he published an overview of the socio-political and religious conditions in England, 'The Present State of England', which is interpreted as a monarchist panegyric to the country. He continued to publish social and historical commentaries throughout his life. |
