Description | Davy describes his experiments on the gases produced by the combination of nitric acid and various chlorides and of nitric and muriatic acids. He describes in detail a type of gas created by combining powdered chloride of sodium, potassium, or calcium and nitric acid. Originally written in a letter to Davies Gilbert.

Whilst the Royal Society declined to publish this paper in full, an abstract of the paper was published in volume 3 of Abstracts of the Papers Printed in the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London [later Proceedings of the Royal Society] as 'On a new combination of chlorine and nitrous gas'. |
