DescriptionIn reply to letter from Raffles, Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society on 20 March 1817 and was admitted into the Society on 20 March 1817. His certificate of candidature was signed by Everard Home, Wm [William] Margden, A B Lambert, Thos [Thomas] Lister Parker, Mattw [Matthew] Raper, Tho [Thomas] Murdoch, John Barrow, S Davis, John Macdonald, Chas [Charles] Wilkins.

The 'Philosophical Transactions [of the Royal Society]' contain one paper by Raffles, 'Some account of the Dugong' which was communicated in a letter to Sir Everard Home, in Phil. Trans. volume 110, p. 174, 1820.
