Description | Society administers the Grant -in-Aid for Scientific Investigations which has been voted by Parliament annually since 1850. In that year the Government offered to find £1000 for this purpose if the Society would accept the responsibility for its administration. In spite of opposition by some Fellows, the Council accepted the offer and this Grant-in Aid has been provided ever since. It is dealt with by a General Committee on which a number of scientific societies are represented and provides grants in aid of research to individual workers whose applications are considered and reported on by a number of Special Boards to this General Committee. |
