Title | Letter from [Joseph Wilson] Swan, Overhill, Warlingham, Surrey, to Mr [Alan Archibald] Campbell Swinton |
Creator | Swan; Sir; Joseph Wilson (1828-1914) |
Date | 15 February 1912 |
Description | Apologises for not having the exact date of when early lighting was installed in the gallery and dining room at Cragside but he believe it was in early 1881. States that the lighting at Alnwick was a little later than that, confirming Swinton's supposition that it was experimental and temporary. Unable to give particulars as to the lighting at Coombe Bank, stating Mr [William] Spottiswoode used it more or less from 1881. Surprised to learn about the house of Sir William Crookes, whose residence was also lit early on. |
