Title | Letter from William Crookes, 7 Kensington Park Gardens, London, W., to [Alan Archibald] Campbell Swinton, 43 Grove Street, Newcastle on Tyne |
Creator | Crookes; William (1832-1919); British chemist |
Date | 21 November 1883 |
Description | Informs that he has responded to a request from Messrs Longman to advise them as to Swinton's MS work on Electric Lighting, identifying small points for improvement. Now they have been in touch again, wishes to send him proof sheets of the book for the purpose of submitting his revisions. He does not wish to proceed without Swinton's full sanction as he does not have major additions to make, other than points to which he has denoted special attention. Longman have adivsed that Swinton entirely acquiesces in the proposal arrangement and make two enquiries which he can best answer by enclosing two papers which he has struck off from time to time. Informs that his patents have now become the property of Gülcher Electric Light Co. Swinton is welcome to look at the enclosed papers [enclosure not present], and seek further information if needed. He believes it would be better for Swinton to write what he thinks best, and he will confine himself to revising the proofs, stating that were he to write about his own lamps, there might be a complaint of unfairness. |
