Title | Letter from [Alan Archibald Campbell] Swinton, to H. J. Walker [Esquire], C. B. H. |
Creator | Swinton; Alan Archibald Campbell (1863-1930); British electrical engineer |
Date | 27 September 1927 |
Description | Informs he has been to see Colonel Sir Henry [George] Lyons, head of the Science Museum, as arranged. They met to discuss the Turbinia, and the present position will not be its final one. as at present it is an annex, constructed chiefly of corrugated iron, built on to the rooms that were originally the restaurant rooms of the 1882 Exhibition. Reports that Lyons does not think there is any possibility of its being moved for at least another ten years. At the end of 10 or 13 years, when the whole gallery is rebuilt, they would have to make space for the whole. Lyons agrees that the whole boat would look much better. Discusses building it and the expenses associated with doing so. |
