TitleLetter from [Alan Archibald Campbell] Swinton, to J. S. Highfield [Esquire]
CreatorSwinton; Alan Archibald Campbell (1863-1930); British electrical engineer
Date8 May 1928
DescriptionRecalls Highfield showing him an installation at the Metropolitan Company, of a system of high tension electrical distribution by means of continuous current, in which the dynamos and the continuous current, in which the dynamos and motors were all connected in series, with insulation platforms round them as to prevent the attendants getting shocks from the commutators or from frames of the machines. Further recalls there was a large installation on this system somewhere in France, named after a particular engineer and enquires what the name of the engineer is. Additionally wishes to know whether it is still in use or has been superseded by alternating currents. Anxious to have this information in connection with another scheme of quite another kind in connection with the generation of large powers by numerous internal combustion engines each driving a separate continuous current dynamo, and all connected in series.
