Title | Letter from [Alan Archibald Campbell] Swinton, to The Joint Acting Secretaries, National Emergency Committee of Christian Citizens, 1 Central Buildings, Westminster, S. W. 1. |
Creator | Swinton; Alan Archibald Campbell (1863-1930); British electrical engineer |
Date | 20 January 1928 |
Description | Acknowledges receipt of a previous letter informing him of their upcoming meeting of 25 January and 14 February. Regrets to decline the invitation as the dates are unsuitable for him but requests their circulars to acquaint himself with the Betting Scandal at Wembley. Draws their attention to the matter of Lord Askwith and his chairmanship of a greyhound racing company, detailing his pro gambling opinions published in newspapers but failing to mention the significant profits the pursuit brings him. Encloses a copy to the Editor of the Morning Post on the subject, giving details of Askwith's financial interests in dog racing but this was returned to him [enclosure not present]. Strongly believes that as Treasurer of the Young Men's Christian Association endeavouring to increase his income supporting gambling, is a matter of public interest. |
