Title | Letter from [Alan Archibald Campbell] Swinton, to Mr. Lane Fox Pitt |
Creator | Swinton; Alan Archibald Campbell (1863-1930); British electrical engineer |
Date | 10 May 1929 |
Description | Encloses a copy of his letter published in the Electrician. Recollects that in Trotter's communication on the subject to the Electrical Times there was a reference to a patent Lane Fox Pitt took out for a wire lamp, either a platinum or platinum and iridium, in an atmosphere of nitrogen, which might be an anticipation of the modern tungsten gas-filled lamp, as at that time neither tungsten nor argon were known. Regrets he has not kept Trotter's communication to the Electrical Times and requests a copy of the patent. Aware that the Council of the Institution of Electrical Engineers are due to discuss the proposal of the Electrician that representation should be made to the Americans that Swan was prior to Edison. |
