TitleLetter from Dr V. J. Woolley, The Society for Psychical Research, 31 Tavistock Square, London, W. C. 1., to [Alan Archibald Campbell Swinton]
CreatorWoolley; Dr V. J (fl 1927); Honorary Research Officer of The Society for Psychical Research
Date10 May 1927
DescriptionThanking Swinton for sending him a copy of his letter to the "Evening Standard", explaining that the delay in receiving it means it is not too late to reply in print, even if the subject is suitable for a newspaper correspondence. Invites Swinton to an event during which he will give a detailed account of the results, offering to reserve him a seat. Unsure whether Swinton has read his entire article published in the "Radiot Times", or only brief summaries appearing elsewhere, remarking 'I differ fundamentally from what seems to be your view that few detailed coincidences would constitute more positive evidence than a comparison between the members who gave the first card in a) the right place b) the wrong place. The few coincidences, however detailed, can always be attributed to chance. No chance can account for a 4: 1 ratio, in hundreds of guesses'.
