Title | Copy of a Letter from [Alan Archibald Campbell] Swinton, 40 Chester Square, London, S. W. 1., to Dr. V. J. Woolley, The Society for Psychical Research, 31 Tavistock Square, W. C. 1. |
Creator | Swinton; Alan Archibald Campbell (1863-1930; British electrical engineer |
Date | 16 May 1927 |
Description | Informs that when he wrote to the Evening Standard he only saw the interview with Woolley in that paper, but has since received Woolley's letter and has read the article in the Radio Times. Agrees that the Evening Standard is not a very suitable medium for discussion on such matter but then that is where he read Woolley's remarks on the recent test. Comments on the unscientific nature of the attitude adopted by The Society of Psychical Research, being more propaganda based on preconcieved notions, rather than the cold scientific analysis of results, giving as much prominence to failures as to successes that such a subject requires. Cannot accept invitation owing to previous engagements, adding that his attendance would be of no use to anyone as his views are 'fundamentally at variance with those of most psychic investigators'. Highlights that the telepathy experiment in question was arranged on entirely unscientific grounds, detailing his criticisms. |
