Description | Volume of press cuttings assembled and largely authored by Alan Archibald Campbell Swinton relating to both scientific and psychical research. Subjects of scientific nature include an article on Swinton's broadcast about the importance of experimenting; articles on wireless development; electricity supply; the Waterloo Ball; the safety of wireless; tramways; television & boradcasting services; trend of bursting water and gas mains in London; power stations in cities; invention of the carbon incandescent electric lamp.
A large portion of the volume is devoted to psychical investigations and spiritualism, including the sensational public disagreement between Swinton and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in relation to the controversial photograph of the "ghost" of Lord Combermere, Swinton's uncle, published in Doyle's 'The History of Spiritualism'. Also included are articles on the debunking of the belief in life after death and water divining.
