| Description | Hooker shares his observations on the genus Trigonocarpon, which he describes as 'the most interesting and important [botanical] fossil' contained in the flora of the carboniferous epoch. He suggests that the symmetry in form and size which many of the specimens display and the regularity of the sculpturing on their surfaces suggest their belonging to a class of 'highly organized vegetables'.
