Description | Robert Walsh, (1785 - 7 February 1859), American publicist and diplomat. His ship for the United States was not yet ready so he travelled to Edinburgh, armed with Blagden's letters of introduction to Sir James Hall, Dr Wright and Dr Thompson. He found these letters so productive that he has postponed his departure for the States until March. " I have found among them not only the genius which dazzles and the learning that instructs, but a refinement of manners and a liberality of sentiment which delight and conciliate a stranger". Has attended lectures at Edinburgh University. Professor Hall sailed for the States and thanks Blagden for his help. |
