TitleCopy letter from William Huggins and Clements R. Markham, National Antarctic Expedition, 1 Savile Row, Burlington Gardens, to Captain Scott
Date30 August 1904
DescriptionAcknowledges the receipt of Captain Scott's letters dated 6 June and 5 July which outline his departure from New Zealand. The one in July is written just eight days before the arrival of the Discovery. It is expected that Captain Scott will return to this country at the beginning of September.

The Presidents thank the Chairman of the Board at Lyttelton for the facilities the Board kindly extended to the expedition. Captain Scott is instructed to proceed to the East India Docks. Capatin Scott's proposals respecting the disposal of the collections and instruments are in accordance with arrangements agreed to between the Councils of the two societies and have our approval. The question of the disposal of the scientific library will receive further consideration. The course adopted with regard to the scale of the oceanographic apparatus is approved.

The other requests in Captain Scott's letters will be decided upon by the Joint Finance Committee. The ship will be paid off by the Secretary under instructions from the Joint Finance Committee. An appreciation of Captain Scott's work is expressed. Valuable scientific evidence is hoped for.
