Description | Reviews the late and unfavourable summer and much heavy ice along the land. The 'Morning' reached the edge of the ice, 8 miles from the 'Discovery' on 23 January 1903. Captain Scott used every endeavour to get the 'Discovery' free. There was excellent help on board.
The 'Morning' appears to have been in danger of being detained after starting to return in March. She was beset to the westbound of Beaufort Island, but at last worked clear under steam and sail, in a S.W gale. The extensive land discovered by Captain Scott to the east of the ice barrier, he wishes to name 'King Edward VII Land'. |
