Title | Letter from Richard Tetley Glazebrook, National Physical Laboratory, Bushy House, Teddington, Middlesex, to Joseph Larmor, Royal Society, Burlington House |
Description | Glazebrook has been looking into the question of the magnetic observatory stables, which were mentioned in early correspondence, but not in the report of 7 December 1903, when plans and estimates were approved. The Office of Works are therefore correct in that the stables were not originally asked for, since the plans were approved without them, but Glazebrook had repeatedly pointed out the need for stable accomodation and Mr. Oldrieve considered that there was a margin in the estimates to supply what was necessary. The acytelene chamber was asked for in 1902, but Glazebrook thinks that the Office of Works did not appreciate the amount of excavation that would be necessary. There is no such thing as the observation tower, only raised walls to carry the flat roof at the Eskdalemuir building. Asks to see Larmor's draft letter before he sends it. |
