Dr Wilkins presented a report fromt he Committee formerly appointed to meet and consider certain papers to be inserted in the History of the Society, namely, that the Committe had met and looked over a number of such papers as listed; theyhad thought it good that such papers might be referred to the repective authors to review them before they were printed as they were to be published with their names prefixed.
Ordered that such papers according to the list be referred, reviewed and then delivered to Mr Spratt to insert them ,and before they are printed, to present them for review by the President.
Ordered, that Mr Hill, having drawn out of the General Lists of the proposers of Candidates, the names of every such proposer together with the names of those who are thus respectively proposed by them, so that the persons proposed may be reminded of their payments, by their Proposers.
Mr Hook having proposed giving the Longitude, as he has conceived it, to the Society, it was ordered that he should choose such persons to commit this business to, as he thought good; and make the experiment; that by such chosen persons, the Council might be satisfied of the truth and practicality of the invention, and proceed accordingly to take out a Patent for him.
Ordered that Dr Wilkins meet at least the first time with the Committee for improving the English tongue, and explain to them how to proceed in their committee, according to the sense of the Council, namely chiefly to improve the Philosophy of the Language.
Ordered, that the printing of Horrox's papers be considered at the next meeting of the Council. |
