' The President paid into the Hands of the Treasurer One hundred pounds from the Right Honourable the Lord Halifax, which he was pleased to give the Society towards discharging the Debt owing on the purchasing the Houses in Crane Court. The Council ordered a Letter of Thanks to be sent him: The Letter was read, approved of, and ordered to be sent by Dr Sloane; and is as follows.
My Lord I am ordered by the President and Council of the Royal Society to return their most humble thanks for Your Lordships very obliging Present of one Hundred Pounds towards the Purchase of a House for the Society to meet in. They have also taken care that Your Lordships name be recorded among their Benefactors. I am Your Lordships Most Obedient and Most Humble Servant. Hans Sloane
Mr Petiver gave five Guineas and promised five more for the same purpose : He was thanked.
Mr Pitfield was Ordered to pay Mr Hunt one hundred thirty five pounds seven shilling and six pence towads the Discharge of so much of the two Bonds, indorsing the same on the Backs of the said Bonds.
The Secretary was ordered likewise to send Letters to such Persons of the Society as are not of the Council, in the following manner : The Royal Society having lately purchased a House, and being about fitting up the same for their use, and designing to build a new Repository, Several of the Members have freely contributed towards the same; and I am ordered to acquaint You therewith, leaving it to Yourself to be assistant in such proportion as You think fit.
Sir Marmaduke Wyvill, Mr Linda, Dr Sandilands and Mr Luther were proposed to be Members of the Society, and it was resolved to delay Ballotting for them till next Meeting.
Mr Isted was desired to take all possible care in the prosecution of the Law Suit about the Fee farm Rents, with Sir Edward Northey and Mr Dod, and to do what is necessary to be done against next term, when it is to be tryed. '
